Mr. Charles E. Dufresne (84) of 6489 NC 268 Dobson, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 27, 2013 at the VA Medical Center (Hospice) in Salisbury, NC. Mr. Dufresne was born February 6, 1929 in Leominister, Mass to the late Joseph A. and Laura Gagne Dufresne. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth Mooney Dufresne, three devoted children, Debra Carr of Pacific Palisades, CA., Charles E. "Chuck" Jr. and his wife Joy Dufresne of Raleigh, NC and Karen McKenzie of Boca Raton, Fl.; three beloved grandchildren, Kimberly Dufresne, Matthew Dufresne and Jack Guastella; a sister, Claire Dufresne Weber of Lake Zuric, IL and a sister-in-law, Annie Mae Gwyn Mooney of Ararat, NC. In addition to his parents Mr. Dufresne was preceded in death by ten siblings, Francis Dufresne, Yvonne Venturi, Marguerite Pepin Boyd, Germaine Guilmette, Hortense (Jean) Membrino, Irene Guilmette, Betty Chapel, Richard Dufresne, Leo Dufresne and Norman Dufresne (Missing in Action - Korea.) He was retired after twenty years of service with the US Army in March 1967. He was a Staff Sergeant serving during the Korean Conflict and in Germany in the 1950s. In the United States, he was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA, Fort Campbell, KY, US Army Pacific in Hawaii and Fort Devens, MA. Charlie became a trucker/mover after his retirement from the Army working for Mayflower Moving Company of Nashua, NH; North American Van Lines of Charlotte, NC and Sheets Transfer and Storage Company of Mount Airy, NC until January, 2006. Mr. Dufresne was of the Catholic faith and a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Mount Airy, NC. He faithfully attended Pine Hill Friends Meeting with his dear wife, Ruth, as long as his health permitted. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Pine Hill Friends Meeting by Rev. Michael Thames and Rev. Billy Britt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors conducted by the United States National Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday April 1. 2013 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pine Hill Friends Meeting, 3968 NC 268 Ararat, NC 27017, or the Pine Hill Friends cemetery fund, c/o of Johnny Bruner, 638 Eldora Road Ararat, NC 27007. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of WG Bill Hefner VA Medical Center (Building 42), especially Dr. Mark Hueser and Dr. Brazis (ER) for their loving and compassionate care.
