Mr. Charles Reid Goard, Jr

Mr. Charles Reid Goard, Jr., age 92 of Richmond, VA, joined his Savior on February 4, 2014. Mr. Goard was born in Surry County on February 19, 1921 to Charles Reid Goard, Sr. and Sadie Poole Goard. Mr. Goard "Charlie" owned and operated numerous toy stores during his career and was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Burroughs, Diane and Michael Ewbank; four grandchildren, Peggy Lee Briggs and husband Bradley, Julie Hopkins Slack and husband Vincent, Jennifer Hopkins Rietveld and husband Chris and Christopher Philip Avery and wife Michele; seven great grandchildren, Kenneth Bryant Yeaman, Benjamin Scott Yeaman, Gabriel Reid Slack, Hannah Elizabeth Slack, Michael Philip Avery, Emma Lynne Rietveld and Alexander Scott Avery; siblings and spouses, June Beamer of Galax, VA, Barbara Jean Johnson, Mary Jo and Clayton Simpson and Mabel Elaine Mosely Goard all of Mt. Airy, Paul and Margaret Goard of Gainesville, FL. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goard was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalee Johnson Goard; brothers and a sister-in-law, Bill Goard and Leon and Nancy Goard and "lifelong friends" Bill and Eleanor Tyndall. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Kevin Minix. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
