Mr. Charles Richard Smith

Mr. Charles Richard Smith, age 80, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017, at Carolina’s Medical Center. Mr. Smith was born on April 23, 1937, to Hoke Edward Smith and Cecil Chambers Smith Shaw. He proudly served our country in the United States Army and was retired from the United States Postal Service. Mr. Smith was an avid golfer and fisherman. He loved working in his yard and flowers, but his greatest joy was his family, especially his precious grandchildren. Among the many who will always cherish his memory are his loving wife, Yvonne Boyd Smith; sons, Bradley Kirk Smith and Dwayne Richard Smith and wife April; grandchildren, Jeremy Andrew Smith and Ava Hope Smith; a great grandson, Michael Andrew Smith; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and George Davis; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Mary Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Christopher Smith; sisters, Opal Ayers, Mary Montgomery, and Frances Mankins; and by brothers, Ed Smith, Jack Smith, Frank Smith, and R. C. Smith. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Moody Funeral Home by LTC (Ret) Dwayne R. Smith and Pastor Noel Sweezy. Burial will follow in Mount Bethel Moravian Church Graveyard. The family will receive friends Sunday, beginning at 2:00 PM, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Bethel Moravian Church Graveyard Fund, c/o Bonnie Ayers, 2119 Wards Gap Rd., Cana, VA 24317 or to Stanley United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 217 N. Main St., Stanley, NC 28164.
