Mr. Charles Hughes Tatum, age 83 of Stuart passed away at his home on Thursday, March 23, 2017. He was born in Patrick County on November 20, 1933 to the late James “Jim” Tatum and Abigail Rucker Tatum. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Turner Tatum; a son, Charles G. Tatum; five brothers, Joe Tatum, James Tatum, William Faye Tatum, Glen E. Tatum and Kyle E. Tatum; and two sisters, Dorothy Tatum and Inez Tatum Agnew. Mr. Tatum served three tours in Vietnam while in the United States Army with the 101 Airborne Division. He attended the Greater Tabernacle of Praise.
Mr. Tatum is survived by three sons, Terry Marshall Tatum and wife, Martina of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Carvey Lee Tatum of Stuart and James L. Tatum and wife, Martina of Danville; six grandchildren: Marcel Tatum, Maurice Scott, April Jefferson, Kasey Evans, Carvey Evans, and Carolyn Jean Hauser; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Hill of Martinsville and Virginia Loggins of Stuart; a brother, Ralph Tatum of Fredericksburg; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Greater Tabernacle of Praise with Elder Melton Roberson officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
