Mr. Charles Leonard Vernon, age 70 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He was born in Patrick County on June 13, 1943, and was preceded in death by his father, Dennis F. Vernon, an infant brother, Keith Dennis Vernon, and an infant sister. He served in the United States Army, retired with 41 years of service with the Virginia Department of Transportation and had worked as an Inspector for the County of Patrick. He was a member of Bouldin Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was a Ruling Elder and Trustee.
Mr. Vernon is survived by his wife, Carol Williams Vernon of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy Vernon, Chris and Amy Vernon, all of Stuart; three grandchildren, Taylor, Josie and Katie Vernon; his mother, Jessie Mae Ayers Vernon of Stuart; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Carol B. Vernon of Stuart; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Vernon will be held Monday, June 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Robert E. Button officiating. Burial will follow in Bouldin Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home of his mother.
