Mr. Charlie Wayne Hardy

Mr. Charlie Wayne Hardy age 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, September 28, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Hardy was born on September 9, 1931 in Surry County, to the late John Marvin Hardy and Bessie Simpson Hardy. Wayne was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed by all that knew him. He proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Hennis Freight Lines and Mt. Airy Oil after many years of dedicated service and was also a retired firefighter from White Plains Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen Lynn Sumner and husband Jimmy, of Mount Airy; one granddaughter, Shannon Leigh Francis and her husband Josh of Francisco; and one great-grandchild, Laura Madilynn Francis; a sister and brother-in-law, Glenda Evans and husband Richard of Greensboro; a brother and sister-in-law, John D. Hardy and wife Bonnie of Siloam; a sister-in-law, Betty Hardy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Lou Nell Kallam Hardy; three sisters, Mildred Long, Dorothy Norman, and Bonita Hauser; and two brothers, Cecil Hardy and Nelson Hardy. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Steven Corn officiating with burial to follow in the White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department, 801 Old US Hwy. 601, Mt. Airy, North Carolina 27030.
