Mr. Charlie Ray Spence

Mr. Charlie Ray Spence, age 60 of Stuart, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on July 17, 1948. Mr. Spence was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Frederick Spence and Dorothy Pruitt Spence Gammons; one half-brother, G. W. Gammons; and one sister, Addie Mae Spence. He had retired as a supervisor from the Virginia Department of Transportation with over 30 years of service. He had served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was a member of VFW Post 7800.
Mr. Spence is survived by his wife, Mary Horton Spence of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Dale Owens of Stuart and Michele and Bennie Belcher of Woolwine; four grandchildren, Kelly Owens, Jason Owens, Holly Belcher and Eric Belcher; one half-brother, Ronnie Gammons of Mount Airy, North Carolina; and one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Linda Hall of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mr. Spence will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Wayne Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
