Mr. Clifford Columbus Griffith, age 97 of Stuart, passed away Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem. He was born in Patrick County on August 21, 1910 to the late James and Ella Bennett Griffith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by a brother, T. H. Griffith. He served in the United States Navy on the Alleutian Islands during World War II, and was employed by Virginia Department of Transportation.
Mr. Griffith is survived by one daughter, Mary Perry Smith and husband, Rolf, of Oak Ridge, North Carolina; one son, Harold C. Griffith and wife, Sue W., of Boones Mill, Virginia; the mother of his children, Lora Hopkins Griffith of Stuart; four grandchildren, Kent Griffith of Salem, Rhonda P. Cooper of Brentwood, Tennessee, Andrea G. Camper of Daleville and Becky P. Harris of Patrick Springs; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Orea Rakes of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mr. Griffith will be held Sunday, February 17, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Pat Collins and Rev. Jeff Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Stuart cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
