Mr. Clifton Dwin Smith, age 89, of Dobson, NC passed away on Sunday morning at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born in Surry County on June 7, 1924 to the late Roy Dolpheus Smith and the late Daisy Bowman Smith. He was a member of the Dobson First Baptist Church and was a retired Maintenance Foreman in the textile industry. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII Company B, 260th Engineer Combat Battalion, and his Tour of Duty was in Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the Dobson Lions Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Fred Smith, Ray Smith and Elbert Smith. Surviving is his wife of 66 years Dorothy Crissman Smith of the home; a daughter Suzanne Smith of Dobson; two sisters Bonnie Bennett of Siloam, and Jackie Wall also of Siloam; one brother and four sisters-in-law, Bobby and Callie Smith of Siloam, Gladys Smith of Shingletown, California, Ethel Smith of Siloam, and Verona Hiatt of Winston-Salem; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in the chapel of the Dobson First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Pine Hill Friends Cemetery with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2018 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The services will be conducted by Rev. Cory Honeycutt. The family will receive friends at the Chapel of the Dobson First Baptist Church on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of his service at 2:00 P.M.
