Mr. Culbert Clinton Smith Age 94 of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday morning at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Smith was born August 5, 1921 in Carroll County, VA. to the late Culbert Erastus and Susan Etta Willard Smith, Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII where he received a Purple Heart. He was a retired carpenter and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving are his wife Frances Puckett Smith of the home, four daughters and sons-in-law Sherron and Gary McCraw of Cana, Betty Jean and Carl Worley of Winston Salem, Sarah Etta Mayes of Mt. Airy and Lynn Boyd of Mt. Airy, two sons and daughters-in-law Brack and Sandra Boyd and Preston and Debbie Smith of Charlotte, seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, three sisters Ruth Easter of Mt. Airy, Eunice Johnson of Boonville and Marie Stephens of Florida, one brother and sister-in-law Roy and Mildred Smith of Mt. Airy , one brother-in-law Joe Rippey of Mt. Airy and his caregiver and friend Doris Hutson of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his first wife Zadia Smith, an infant son, a granddaughter Tiffani Kornbrust and by four sisters Alyie Hale, Virginia Rippey, Macy Haynes and Alma Helen Smith and by one brother Landford Smith. Funeral services will be held Friday April 15, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Ricky Easter and Rev. Scott Schuyler with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full military rites conducted by Mt. Airy Post #2019 and Pilot Mountain Post #9436. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 P.M. until time for the service. Flowers will be accepted.
