Mr. Darrell Leroy Oakley, 86, of Dobson passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Surry County on September 6, 1927 to the late Claude and Effie Isaacs Oakley. Mr. Oakley worked in Management for various textile companies until his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served our country during the Korean War. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 32 years, Patricia Ann Jones Oakley, of the home; seven beloved children, Sue Oakley of Mount Airy, Darlene and husband David Selby of Hampshire, England, Sandra Leigh and husband David Troutman of Florida, Danette and husband Billy Hawks of Dobson, Tommy and Kimberly Collins of Mount Airy, Billy and Ricky Oakley, both of Mount Airy; ten special grandchildren and spouses, Michael Vernon of Mount Airy, Nicki Kemp of Mount Airy, Zaneta and Ryan Summers of Hendersonville, Dayna and Jonatthan Bullis of Dobson, Alden and Jason Dorestant of Florida, Kayla Smith of Mount Airy. Collins of Mount Airy, April Selby of England,and Addy Hawks of Dobson; nine great-grandchildren, Alana Summers, Kaylin Bullis, Kelsey Bullis, Eliah Smith, Aubree Smith, Madelyn Bullis, Madison Vernon, Talan Vernon, and Abagail Kemp.There will be no formalservices, however, the family can be greeted at the home of daughter, Danette Hawks, at 196 Outback Acres Lane, in Dobson. With Mr. Oakley having a great love for dogs, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Surry County Humane Society, 230 Fredricks Street, Mount Airy, NC27030 in his honor.
