Mr. David Beamer Childress

Mr. David Beamer Childress, age 61, of Elkin, NC , passed away on Saturday August 20, 2011 at the Wake Forest Baptist University Hospital in Winston-Salem , NC . He was born in Surry County on March 30, 1950 to the late Paul and Gladys Dollyhigh Childress. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was retired from Interface Fabric of Elkin, formally Chatham Manufactory. He was the former Chief of the Jot-Um-Down Fire Department. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister Bud Childress, Shirley Childress Freeman, Doug Childress; and a step son Sammy Jenkins. Surviving are his wife Sue Laws Childress of the home; one daughter and her fiancée Beverly Childress and Ross Banner of Boonville, NC; granddaughter Paige Gentry of Boonville, NC; brother and sister-in-law Arnold Gray Childress and Amy Jo Childress of Elkin; sisters-in-law Linda Childress of Elkin, Janet Childress of Thurmond; brother-in-law David Freeman of Boonville; a very special mother-in-law Virginia Laws of Dobson; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday August 23, 2011 at Welcome Valley Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Bill Jenkins will conduct the services. The family will receive friends at Welcome Valley Baptist Church on Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Childress family.
