Mr. David Louis Hiatt

Mr. David Louis Hiatt, 72, of Mt. Airy went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 8, 2016 at his home. He was born in Surry County on May 25, 1943 to the late Joe Wheeler and Hattie Edwards Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt was retired from Virginia Carolina Paving as vice president, and was a member of St. Paul Church of the Brethren. He was recognized as an avid banjo player. He is survived by his wife, Mozelle Leftwich Hiatt of the home; a daughter, Ginger Hiatt of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Tammy Hiatt of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Susan Gravely, Scott Hiatt, Jeremiah Hiatt, Shannon Hiatt, Justin Davis, Jessica Stone, Christy Talbert, and Kayla Williams; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Anabella Marion, and Bertie Hicks both of Mt. Airy; a sister-in-law, Norma Hiatt of Mt. Airy,; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by brothers, Coy Cheater “Bill” Hiatt, Roy G. Hiatt, Sanford Hiatt, and James Hiatt. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
