Mr. Dennis Wayne Gates

Mr. Dennis Wayne Gates, 59, of Ararat, VA left his earthly home to go on to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. He was born on April 25, 1957 to the late Robert McCree Gates, Sr. and Betty Lou Davis Jones. Mr. Gates is survived by his long-time companion, Phyllis Scales, her children, Ashley Hawks and Crystal Bowman and grandkids, Zachary and Delilah Morales; his daughters, Jennifer Gates and Casey Gates; step dad; Rev. George Junior Jones; his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Rev. Woodrow T. “Butch” Holder, Jr.; many wonderful nieces and nephews that Mr. Gates dearly loved; one special niece and her husband, Angie and Brad Hull. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gates was preceded in death by his sisters, Deborah Gates and Libby Edwards; brothers, Robert McCree Gates, Jr., George William Gates; brother-in-law, Clay Edwards; nephew, Dale McCormick and a special friend, Tony Hawks. Mr. Gates will be truly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Butch Holder and Rev. George Junior Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the time of service and other times at the home of his sister, Sandra Holder.
