Mr. Dennis Franklin Martin, age 90 of Lawsonville, North Carolina passed away Monday, March 17, 2008 at RJ Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Stokes County, North Carolina on March 6, 1918 to the late Frank and Mary Lou Corns Martin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by one great-great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Yates; three sisters, Annie Deatherage, Elsie Mae Hooker and Louise Joyce; and three brothers, Ralph, Euell and Melvin Martin. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and in the United States Army during World War II. He had worked for Coy Thomas Lumber Company for 27 years, Burlington Mills in Madison, North Carolina for 17 years, and was a farmer.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Allie Mae Clark Martin of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Lee and Lorene Martin of Lawsonville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Frances and Jimmy Stovall of Stuart and Treva Martin of Lawsonville; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lucy Martin of Lawsonville, Hallie Shaffer of Mayodan, North Carolina, Virginia Collins of Lawsonville, Elva Jean James of Madison and Pauline Tatum of Stuart; and two brothers, James Martin of Spencer and Odell Martin of Martinsville.
Funeral services for Mr. Martin will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Curtis Hall and Rev. Jeremiah Clement officiating. Burial will follow in Peters Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home.
