Mr. Dewey Curtis "D.C." Bruner

Mr. Dewey Curtis “D.C.” Bruner, Jr. 86 of Mt. Airy passed away at Surry Community Nursing and Rehab Center on Sunday, July 30, 2017. He was born in Surry County on September 14, 1930 to the late Dewey Curtis, Sr. and Sara Luanna Wood Bruner. Mr. Bruner bravely served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Albuquerque, NM. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Mr. Bruner started farming. Later, he worked in construction and became a well-known skilled carpenter, retiring after 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved riding his motorcycle as long as his health permitted. He is survived by a daughter, Sherry Boyd of Raleigh; a son, Ronnie Bruner of Dobson; granddaughter, Nikki Bruner of Winston Salem and a grandson, Jason Boyd of Raleigh. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bruner was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Bowman Bruner; sisters, Ruth Mills and Polly Johnson; and a brother, Coy Bruner. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Union Hill Friends Cemetery with Rev. Winfred Davis officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by Grayson VFW Post 7726. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
