Mr. Dewey Sanders Moss

Mr. Dewey Sanders Moss, age 97 of Stuart, Virginia passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on May 19, 1920 to the late James William Moss and Minnie Goad Moss. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Midkiff Moss; a sister Mary Lou Francis; and two infant sisters. He was the owner and operator of Moss Orchards for over 30 years and was a brick mason, laying brick on many homes in Virginia and North Carolina. He also had a passion for farming and raising cattle, from which he received several conservationist awards. Dewey was a member of Creasey’s Chapel United Methodist Church and past member of CCDF Fire Department. He was also an active volunteer with the Peter’s Creek Community Building for many years.

Mr. Moss is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Leigh and Roger Wilson of Stuart, Laura and Ronnie Smith of Stuart, and Lyn and Tony Hill of Danville; grandchildren, Tyler and Laura Wilson, Haleigh and Colton Wood, Parker Smith, Lauren Smith, Caleb Hill, and McKenzie Hill; great granddaughter, Annaleigh Wilson; a sister, Margaret Blackard of Stuart; a brother, Wade Morse of Sanford, Florida; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Faye Fain, Teresa Stegall, Linda Moore, and Jerry Wagoner.

Funeral services for Mr. Moss will be held at Creasey’s Chapel United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 6:00 pm with Pastors Tammy Franklin and Billy Stegall officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:00 at the church Tuesday evening.
