Mr. Dewey Elmond Nelson, age 69, of Mt. Airy NC, passed away on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at his home. He was born in Grayson County Va on January 2, 1948 to the late Roby Nelson and the late Anna Elizabeth York Nelson. He was a Security Guard having worked with Lankford Security in Winston-Salem, was a member of Second Chance Church. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving two tours in Vietnam. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings Robert Nelson, Danny Nelson, David Nelson,. Surviving are his wife Carolyn Moser Nelson of the home; four daughte,rs Tammy Atkins of Mt. Airy, Becky Bingman of Dobson, Billie Jo Bingman of Lowgap, Tammy Nelson of Galax VA; Sons Luke Bingman of the home, Eddie Nelson of Galax, VA, Robert Nelson of Galax, VA; eighteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters Glenda Marion of Dobson, Rita Snow of Level Cross, Faye Midkiff of Dugspur, VA, Kay Nelson of Mt.Airy; brothers, Roger Nelson of Galax, VA, James Nelson of Galax, VA. Funeral service will be held Sunday 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Dobson City Cemetery. Rev. Steve Jenkins will officiate the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of his service at 2:00 PM.
