Mr. Donald Gerard Roantree, age 81 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 12, 1928 to the late Frank and Edna Roantree. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roantree was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Roantree, Jr. and David Roantree. He had served in the United States Army during the Korean war, and was a member of St. Joseph's of the Hills Catholic Church in Eden, North Carolina. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Elk's Lodge in Martinsville.
Mr. Roantree is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lucy Hopkins Roantree of the home; one son, David Roantree of the home; three step-daughters, Pamela Stegall of Atlanta, Georgia, Lynn Cox of Martinsville and Jean Scott of Bassett; two grandsons, Timmy and Jeffrey Scott; and one step-sister, Adrienne Waring of Salisbury, Maryland.
A graveside service for Mr. Roantree will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairystone Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Melton and Father Charles Brickner officiating. A flag presentation will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
