Mr. Douglas Leon Cockram

Mr. Douglas Leon Cockram, age 74 of Stuart, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Patrick County on November 22, 1938 to the late Edwin Wilson Cockram and Eva Wood Cockram. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cockram was preceded in death by one sister, Diane Doss. He was a 1957 graduate of Meadows of Dan High School and served in the United States Army. He was a member of Stuart Baptist Church and had retired from DuPont in Martinsville as a Technical Assistant with 32 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Mr. Cockram is survived by his wife, Dena Gregory Cockram of the home; one daughter, Linda C. Baxter of Richmond; two step sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Diana Joyce of Dublin, Bradley and René Joyce of Stuart; one step daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Dewayne Cassell of Meadows of Dan; one granddaughter, Lauren Kendall; four step grandchildren, Raegan, Dalton, Hayden and Lilly Joyce; one sister and brother-in-law, Geralyne and Ruffin Lynch of Meadows of Dan; and a special friend, Robin Baxter of Richmond.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Stuart Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Belcher and Dr. Clint Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
