Mr. Douglas Deatherage, 70 of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Deatherage was born in Surry County on September 3, 1940 to the late Clavis and Georgia Willard Deatherage. He was a retired truck driver for Salem Carrier. He is survived by his wife, Judy Deatherage of the home; a daughter, Kimberly Holder of Cana, VA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Faron and Anne Deatherage of Cana, VA; Tommy and Lorrie Sechrist, and Richie and Lisa Sechrist all of Westfield; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Lue Jones of Cana, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Deatherage was preceded in death by a son, Lyle "Grass" Sechrist; a son-in-law, Jackie Holder. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church with Pastor Junior Dixon and Rev. David Joyce officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the wonderful care given to Mr. Deatherage during his illness.
