Mr. E. L. "Lester" Shelor

Mr. E.L. “Lester” Shelor, age 98, a Patrick County native, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Landmark Center in Stuart. He was born in Claudville, VA on July 20, 1918 to the late Ellis Shelor and Hattie Webb Shelor. Lester was a member of the CC Corp, served in the Coast Guard during WWII, and was the City Treasurer of Kingsport, TN. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of many civic organizations. After retirement he became a gentleman farmer in Meadows of Dan, VA. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lucile Wells Shelor and his daughter Mary “Eileen” Shelor. He is survived by two daughters, Leslie “Peggy” Swann and husband, Carl of Kingsport, TN, and Susan Service and husband, Tim of Meadows of Dan, VA. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jessica McAlexander and husband, Timothy of Meadows of Dan, VA, Eric Swann of Kingsport, TN, and Jeremiah Shelor and wife, Katherine of Ashburn, VA and one great granddaughter, Amabel Shelor. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 14th, 2017 from 1-2 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. The funeral will begin at 2 at Moody Funeral Home with Pastor Stewart Childress officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Interment will be private. Donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4200 Innslake Drive, Suite 301, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060 in memory of his daughter, Eileen Shelor.
