Mr. Edward Lee McGee

Mr. Edward Lee McGee, Jr., age 91, of Mount Airy, and husband of Sarah Hegler McGee passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. McGee was born in Surry County on July 9, 1923 the son of the late Edward Lee McGee, Sr. and Gertrude Beamer McGee. Mr. McGee was an accountant for Pine State Knitwear and later retired as a teacher from North Surry High School. He was the treasurer of the First Baptist Church for over 65 years, and treasurer of the Surry Baptist Association for over 18 years. Mr. McGee was past president of the Kiwanis Club of Mount Airy, and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Sarah Hegler McGee of Mount Airy; two daughters and son-in-law, Anne and Mark Towe of Mount Airy, and Laurie McGee of Mount Airy; one grandson, Zachary Towe of Mount Airy; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Ruby McGee of Newport News, VA; In addition to his parents Mr. McGee was preceded in death by a son, Alan McGee and two sisters, Ailene Shelton and Mary Critz. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Mount Airy at 2:00 PM, with Dr. Roger Gilbert and Rev. Steve Ayers officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Mr. McGee's family will visit with friends in the Fireside Room at First Baptist Church on Friday from 12:30 until the hour of the service.
