Mr. Ephriam Jackson “June” Loftis, Jr., 100, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. June was born February 1, 1917, in Surry County, the son of the late Ephriam Jackson Loftis and Willie Shelton Loftis. June was married for 74 years to his loving and devoted wife, Jessie Virginia Sutphin Loftis, who preceded him in death on March 1, 2010. June is survived by his loving and devoted son, Kyle D. Loftis (Kathryn) of Naperville, IL. June was extremely proud of his four grandchildren, Kelley (Mike) Pfeffer of Simpsonville, SC, Dr. Kenley (Meg) Loftis of Irmo, SC, Christen (Dr. Bradley) Gelfand of Charlottesville, VA, and Jaime (John) Psarras of Chicago, IL. Eight great-grandchildren blessed his life, Parker, Reid, Drew and Ian Pfeffer, Jackson and Nathan Loftis, and Morgan and Stella Gelfand. June’s life was further enriched with the friendship and love of his surviving sister, Lettie Loftis Patterson, 102; his dear niece, Pauline Jones Pardue; and his nephew, Edward Jones. June will be remembered by many nieces and nephews of the Loftis and Sutphin families. In addition to his wife and parents, June was preceded in death by three sisters, Mattie Loftis Shelton, Vera Loftis Campbell, and Hazel Loftis Campbell Moore; and two brothers, Robert Loftis and William Loftis. June was an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Airy, as a teacher, choir member, and on various committees. The family will receive friends and guests on Saturday, April 8, 2017, from 10:30 until noon in the Fireside Room of First Baptist Church, with a celebration of life service to immediately follow in the sanctuary with the Rev. Jay Meadows officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church Organ Fund, 714 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
