Mr. Fox Atkins

Mr. Fox Atkins, age 77 of Ararat, NC, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 05, 2016 at Northern Hospital. Mr. Atkins was born in Surry County on September 1, 1938 to Coy and Mary McHone Atkins. He was employed at Bassett Furniture for 25 years, Surry County Recycling for 12 years, and also served 2 years in the US Army. Surviving is his loving wife of 50 years, Jackie O’Neal Atkins; his children, Weldon Gammons, Wallace and Sandra Gammons and Lee Atkins; grandchildren, Brian and Andi Gammons, Amber and Woody Shropshire, and Jamiee Davis; great grandchildren, Layla and Levi Gammons and Korbyn “Foxx” Shropshire; his siblings, Sally Holder, Sandra and Eddie Ray Draughn, and Bud Atkins, a sister-in-law, Louise Atkins, a brother-in-law, Paul McGee and special friends, Tommy Horton, Roger Danley and Kenneth Coe. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Alice Davis; a great granddaughter, Jenna Lynn Gammons; sisters, Marie Brintle, Alma Robertson and Mary Ruth McGee and brothers, Nick, Coy Jr., Curtis, Ernest and Max Atkins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 7, 2016 at The Community Church by Rev. Ray Hutson, Rev. Timmy Crotts, Rev. Charles Stevens, Rev. Dennis Bledsoe and Rev. Mike Martin. Burial will follow in Ararat Cemetery with military rites by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Mt. Airy & Pilot Mtn. Posts. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00to 8:00 at The Community Church. The family would like to express a special thanks to Northern Hospital ICU Staff and also the step down unit for the wonderful care given to Mr. Atkins.
