Mr. Garland Edward Draughn

Mr. Garland Edward Draughn, age 73 of Mt. Airy passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 at his home. Mr. Draughn was born in Surry County on March 6, 1940 to Thomas Roger and Beatrice Towe Draughn. He was known for being a hard worker and having a light hearted spirit, always telling jokes. Mr. Draughn was a long time local general contractor and the owner/operator of Draughn's Mobile Home Supplies & Repairs. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Scott Shelton of Pilot Mountain; a son, Trent Draughn of Concord and his fiancée Velvet Atkins; his adored grandchildren, Meghan Shelton, Hayley Shelton, Ali Draughn, Trinity Draughn and Tyler Draughn; sisters, Shelvie Cassell, Christine and Garland Pack, Ronda Parker and Betty Draughn; a special friend Mary and his loyal companion, Wiggles. In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughn was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Draughn and his former wife of forty years, Shirley Simmons Draughn. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Randy Edwards. Burial will follow in Stoney Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
