Mr. Garland Austin Smith

Mr. Garland Austin Smith, 71 of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday November 15, 2011 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Smith was born in Amelia County, VA on May 3, 1940 to the late John Christopher and Carrie Mae Johnson Smith. He was retired from Sara Lee and a member of Laurel Bluff Baptist Church. He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Leonard Hodges of Mt. Airy, Shelva and Gerald Wall of Petersburg, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by four sisters, Bertha Perryman, Eunice Seay, Lorraine Busick and Annie Mae Hutton; three brothers, James, Gurnie and Bernie Smith. Funeral services will be held Friday November 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arlis Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
