Mr. Gary Ellis Kirkman

Mr. Gary Ellis Kirkman, age 63, of Ararat, VA, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at his home. Mr. Kirkman was born in Surry County on November 17, 1953, to Madeline Pruitt Kirkman and the late Ellis Kirkman. He worked for Structural Steel of Carolina and was a loving husband, father, and new grandfather who will be dearly missed by all his family. Among the many who will always cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Lavonda Bateman Kirkman; a son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Abby Kirkman; his precious granddaughter, Ella Rose Kirkman; his mother, Madeline Kirkman; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Gary Doss; his mother-in-law, Opal Bateman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy Wilson, Carolyn and David Woodruff, Mickie and Keith Martin, and Sharon Bateman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lonnie and Nelia Bateman, and Lee and Susie Bateman; several nieces and nephews; his special grand dog, Rebel and many dear friends. In addition to his father, Mr. Kirkman was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Kirkman. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Jim Brewer. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy from 12:30 until 1:30 PM.
