Mr. Gates Saunders Montgomery

Mr. Gates Saunders Montgomery, age 83, of Ararat, VA., passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2016, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center. Mr. Montgomery was born in Patrick County on November 24, 1932 to Claude Wilson and Rebecca Bowman Montgomery. He was retired from Armtex and was also well known as the co-owner/operator of Montgomery Greenhouses. Mr. Montgomery was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends. Left to forever cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 64 years, Geraldine “Jinky” Heath Montgomery; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Stout; Janet and Jeff Reynolds; Dr. Rebecca Montgomery and husband, Dr. Joe Dillard; and Sharon and Ricky Bishop; grandchildren, Sonnie Hardy and husband, Stan; Stacy Smith and husband Korey; Kimberley Weddle and husband Travis; Michael Bishop and Walter Dillard; great grandchildren; Zane Hardy, Sophie Smith, Porter Smith and Arwen Weddle; a sister, Mildred Pell; a brother-in-law, Turner Thompson, and sisters-in-law, Frances Montgomery and Delcie Montgomery. In addition to his parents, Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by sisters, Alma Griffin, Virginia Thompson, and Millie Montgomery and by brothers, Robert Montgomery and Claude Montgomery. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 18, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Warren Bennett. Burial will follow in Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
