Mr. Gene Garfield Barnard, age 80 of Hurricane Ridge Road, Meadows of Dan, passed away Monday, October 15, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Patrick County on March 5, 1927 to the late Guy Garfield and Bertha Stanley Barnard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Puckett Barnard. He had been the owner/operator of Hurricane Ridge Dairy Farm, had served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of the Grover King VFW Post 1115.
Mr. Barnard is survived by three daughters, Deborah Jean Barnard DeHart, and husband, Danny of Patrick Springs, Dorothy Lelia Barnard Dalton, and husband, Robert Curtis of Meadows of Dan and Judy Lynn Barnard of Meadows of Dan; two sons, Lesley David Barnard, and wife, Laura of Meadows of Dan and Gary Jehu Barnard, and wife, Helen of Stuart; ten grandchildren, Susan Parks, and husband, Ben, James Barnard, Alicia Theriault, and husband, Patrick, Justin DeHart, David Barnard, Dawn Barnard, Benjamin G. Harris, and wife, Rachael, Angela Harris, Michaela Barnard-Wester and Shylah Barnard-Wester; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Parks and Thomas Smith;
Funeral services for Mr. Barnard will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Lowell Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnard Family Cemetery in Meadows of Dan with military rites by the Grover King Post 1115 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O.
