Mr. George Washington Carson, 89, of Mt. Airy, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on February 18, 1927 to the late David Columbus and Letitia Bell McCraw Carson. He bravely served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Carson was as a farmer as well as owning and operating a sawmill with his brother. Mr. Carson was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed trading knives and working in his yard. He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Carson is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years, Minnie “Tootsie” Inman Carson; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Shirli Carson; grandchildren, Stephen Carson and girlfriend, Karen Hardin, Philip Carson and wife, Angela, Sarah Vaden and husband, Bryan; four great grandchildren; a special nephew, Donald Carson and wife, Anita. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carson was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Carson and G.D. “Red” Carson. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Larry Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:30 prior to leaving for the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of the Mt. Airy Dialysis Center for the wonderful care given to Mr. Carson during his treatments.
