Mr. George Houchins, III

Mr. George Houchins, III, age 65 of Stuart, passed away Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Pioneer Community Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on November 20, 1944 to the late George Houchins, Jr. and Lucy Parker Houchins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Houchins was preceded in death by one son, George Houchins, IV, and two sisters, Christine Houchins Reynolds and Annie Lee Howell. He had been a member of the First Christian Church where he had been a deacon, was a member of Masonic Lodge #320 in Martinsville, and a member of the Stuart Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Houchins had worked for the former R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital for 44 years, and had worked for the Wood Brothers Racing Team since 1995.
Mr. Houchins is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara King Houchins of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Greta and Steve Payne of Stuart; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Donita Houchins and Jeff and Tracey Houchins, all of Stuart; eight grandchildren, Michael Houchins, Jason Payne, Jr., Jennifer Foley, Paige Houchins, Tony Helms, Britany Lester, James Houchins, II and Zachary George Houchins; three great-grandchildren, Brianna Cannoy Houchins, Eli Lester and Wheeler Helms; three sisters, Margaret H. Prunty of Critz, Vivian Graves of Reidsville, North Carolina and Mary Lee Tatum of Critz; and one brother, Willie Parker of Plymouth, North Carolina.
Funeral services for Mr. Houchins will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Dr. Roger Hagwood officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
