Mr. George Dwayne Simmons age 75 of Mt. Airy, NC widower of Mrs. Shirley Jane York King Simmons passed way Friday, January 18, 2013 at Central Continuing Care. He was born April 5, 1937 in Surry County to the late John Pyrse and Nancy Zella Gammons Simmons. He graduated from Westfield High School 1956, and served in the US Army 1958-1960. He was retired from McLean Trucking Company after working 20 years of service, and was a member of the Teamsters Association. He was of the baptist faith. Mr. Simmons was known for his laughter, contagious smile, and quick wit that will be cherished by his friends and family. He had a great love for family and enjoyed life. Surviving are two step-daughters; Denise Peebles of Yadkinville, and Sara Vaden of Winston-Salem, two step-grandchildren; Adam Brent Vaden of Winston-Salem, and Laurn Denise Peebles of Yadkinville, a sister and brother-in-law; Marlene and Clayton Johnson, Pilot Mountain, a brother and sister-in-law; Arvid and Joyce Simmons, Mt. Airy, a niece; Nadine Shelton, King, and nephew; Bradley Johnson, Mt. Airy. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a step granddaughter, Hannah Sara Vaden and a stepson-in-law, Larry Peebles. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Keith Love and Rev. Alton Bledsoe. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 10-11:00 am Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030, or to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Suite 999, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220. .
