Mr. George B. Weidhaas, age 89, of Stuart passed away Friday, February 27, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was born on December 19, 1919 in Easthampton, Massachusetts to the late Fredrick Weidhaas and Elizabeth Neiderberger Weidhaas. In addition to his parents, Mr. Weidhaas was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Weidhaas and Fredrick Weidhaas, and three sisters, Barbara Weidhaas, Helen W. Knight and Eleanor W. Carey. He was a member of Bouldin Memorial Presbyterian Church. He had served in the United States Army during World War II as a 2nd Lieutenant after graduating officer training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was later promoted to 1st Lieutenant while in the Reserves, and served in the Korean War in Europe. He was educated at Easthampton High School, Northampton Commercial College, and attended Oklahoma University. He became the director of customer service for United Elastic Corporation and J. P. Stevens after moving to Stuart in July, 1972 from the Easthampton, Massachusetts Offices.
Mr. Weidhaas is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eleanor Marciniak Weidhaas of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen Fredrick Weidhaas and Caroline Lester Weidhaas of Stuart and Mark George Weidhaas and Denise Wayne Weidhaas of Bozman, Montana; three grandchildren, Sara Weidhaas Gram and husband, Tim, Karl Weidhaas and wife, Jennifer, and Clinton Weidhaas; three great-grandchidren, William and Georgia Gram and Elizabeth Weidhaas; one brother, Robert Weidhaas of Easthampton; and two sisters, Ruth W. Cykowski and Elizabeth W. Yara, both of Easthampton.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Mountain Home Lodge 263, and Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Interment will be held in the Brookside Cemetery, Massachusetts, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Bouldin Memorial Presbyterian Church, c/o Virginia Hopkins, 343 Central Academy Road, Stuart, Virginia 24171.
