Mr. Gilbert Aaron Draughon, Sr., 90, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living in Mt. Airy. He was born in Surry County on October 10, 1922 to the late Benjamin Edgar and Clara Agnes Watson Draughon. Mr. Draughon was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a member of Grace Moravian Church. He served our country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a lifelong member of the Mt. Airy Elks Lodge. He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Dickerson of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Aaron and Janie Draughon, Trent Draughon and Tammy Atkins all of Mt. Airy, Ronnie and Carol Draughon of Lowgap; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-step grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Allen and Betty Draughon of Mt. Airy, Wayne Draughon of Reidsville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughon was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Forrest Worrell Draughon; a grandson, Kenneth Draughon; A brother, Oliver Draughon; and two infant siblings. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Hayworth officiating. Entombment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 Noon until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Twelve Oaks and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and care given to their dad.
