Mr. Gilmer Steven Branch, Sr. age 69, of Dobson entered the Portals of Heaven in the comfort of his home on Friday, October 10, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on March 5, 1945 to the late Warren Gilmer and Cassie Irene Slate Branch. Mr. Branch was the owner and operator of Branch Construction Company and a member of Central View Missionary Baptist Church. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served our country during the Vietnam War. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of forty six years, Linda O'Neal Branch of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gilmer "Gil" Steven, Jr. and wife Joannah Branch and Lee Allen Collins and wife Tammy all of Dobson; five beloved grandchildren, Ashlee Freeman and husband Alex of Elkin, Haley Collins of White Plains, Kristin Collins of Jacksonville, Lauren Branch of Dobson and Gilmer "Steven" Branch III of Raleigh; a great grand-son, Riley Allen Bare; brother and sister-in-law, Robert Michael "Mike" and wife Gail Branch of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law, Fred and wife Faye O'Neal of Dobson; two sisters-in-law, Betty Jane Kidd of Dobson and Violet and husband Ray Hill of Mount Airy; several special nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, too numerous to mention. In addition to his parents, a daughter, Darlene Collins Rhoden preceded him in death in 2011. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Central View Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Travis Chipman and the Rev. Cory Shelton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard and Veterans of Foreign Wars Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where his body will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 in loving memory of Mr. Branch.
