Mr. Gurnie Harlet Hawks

Mr. Gurnie Harlet Hawks, age 82 of 140 Appleton Road, Cana, VA widower of Mrs. Rosa Ethel Hawks passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows. He was born March 19, 1931 in Carroll County, VA to the late Posey Lester and Arena Madison Cagle Hawks. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law; Geneva Parker, Hillsville, VA and Jeanette and Jon Carter, Mt. Airy, three grandchildren; Joshua Eli Parker, Hillsville, VA, Chelsea Elizabeth Parker, Cana, VA and Jeremy Madison Chappell, Mt. Airy, a sister; Frannie McMillian, Cana, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen McMillian, Gertie McMillian and a infant sister, and three brothers, Burton Hawks, Troy Hawks and a infant brother. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, May 10, 2013 at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Timmy Hawks. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:30 PM Friday until time of the service at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church.
