Mr. Guy Reece Tolbert

Mr. Guy Reece Tolbert of Traphill passed away on Nov. 7, 2013, at Richfield Recovery and Care Center in Salem, Va. He was born in Mount Airy on July 27, 1929, and was 84 years of age at the time of his passing. Mr. Tolbert was the son of the late Ed and Rena Tolbert of Mount Airy. He served as a communication specialist in the United States Air Force during the Berlin Airlift at the end of World War II while stationed in Germany. Mr. Tolbert was a graduate of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., where he received his degree in engineering. Mr. Tolbert was employed by several companies but was most proud of his tenure at Surry Community College in Dobson, where he taught electrical engineering. He retired from that college in 1994. Mr. Tolbert is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Tolbert of Sims and Terri Kelly and husband, John Kelly, of Salem, Va. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Amber Kelly, Nicki Kelly and Noah Kelly. Mr. Tolbert requested that he be cremated and that there be no funeral or memorial services. The family is honoring that request.
