Mr. Harry Benton Thompson

Mr. Harry Benton Thompson, age 96 of Mt. Airy passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011 at his home. Mr. Thompson was born August 10, 1915 in Ararat, VA, one of ten children born to the late John Henry and Notie Puckett Thompson. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, having proudly served in the United States Army and made his living farming. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mabel Marshall Thompson of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Cindy Thompson of Mt. Airy; two daughters and a son-in-law, Joan Thompson Hardin and Margaret and Phillip Easter all of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Jewel Hardin and Michelle T. Payne; great grandchildren; Brittany Willard and Samantha Payne; a sister, Mildred T. Glenn of Winston-Salem; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Fred and Marie Thompson, Turner Thompson and Claude Thompson all of Ararat, VA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Thompson; two sisters, Mattie Young and May Belle Smith and three brothers, Alvis Thompson, Lawrence Thompson and Ralph Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Kenneth Smith. Burial will follow in Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
