Mr. Harvey Ellis Barnes, 83 of Lowgap passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Tuesday, August 6, 2013. He was born on November 27, 1929 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Charlie and Lillian Whitt Barnes. Mr. Barnes was a friend to all he met. During his life he worked in farming, road construction and truck driving. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, reader of western novels and a NASCAR fan. Mr. Barnes served as a volunteer fire fighter for over 15 years with the Skull Camp Volunteer Fire Department. Above all he always took care of his family. He was saved July 17, 1980 and baptized August 3, 1980 in the Fisher River by Rev. Tommy Gillespie. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Connie Golding Barnes of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Jerry Fore of Mt. Airy; one grandson and spouse, Kevin Fore and Trish Kilby Fore of Galax, VA; a half-brother, Bill Bean of Myrtle Beach, SC; a special nephew, Larry Barnes and wife, Chloe of Asheboro; a special friend, Dink Shumate of White Plains and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur, Albert, and Roy Barnes; a half-sister, Juanita Street and a half brother, Kenneth Barnes. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Golding Family Cemetery located at 7426 W. Pine St., Lowgap, NC with Rev. Joe Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the cemetery from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
