Mr. Hayward Lee Morris, age 87 of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Clay County, WVA on August 12, 1925 to the late Hershell Hayward and Ella Ester Jarvis Morris. Mr. Morris enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific and Korean Conflict. He received numerous awards including a Purple Heart. Upon completion of his distinguished career, he retired from the United States Army as a Command Sergeant Major. After his military retirement, Mr. Morris worked with Quality Mills and later retired for the second time at DANCO of High Point. Mr. Morris was a member of the Herman Masonic Lodge #6 in Clarksburg, WVA and received his Scottish Rites. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Harry Nichols of Mt. Airy; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Bob and Mary Morris of Apex, NC, Chuck and Reesa Morris and Andi Morris all of Mt. Airy; grandchildren and spouses, Lisa Nichols Prince and Mike Prince, Mandy Nichols Melton and Rusty Melton, Christy Reichenberger, Lindsay Morris, Addison Morris, Ryan Morris, Harrison Morris, Caroline Morris and Lily Morris; three great-grandchildren, Riley Prince, Colin Prince and Nichols Melton; a brother-in-law, Edsel Eggers of Mt. Airy and a sister-in-law, Margaret Morris of Knightdale. In addition to his parents, Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Ferrell Morris; a son, Tony Morris; a sister, Marjorie Eggers; and two brothers, Paul "P.J." Morris and Jimmy Morris. An entombment service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Dr. Jon Cawley officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and Masonic Rites will be conducted by Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF & AM. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
