Mr. Howard "Pa" Claude Cummings

Mr. Howard “Pa” Claude Cummings, age 89, of Elkin, NC, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at his home. He was born in Yadkin Co. on March 12, 1929, to the late Melvin Alexander and Mamie Elizabeth Macey Cummings. He was a retired Truck Driver from Southland Trucking and had over 66 years driving. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ida Mae Moretz Cummings; sister, Margaret Jordan; brothers, Pete, Bill, John, Melvin, Matthew Cummings; son-in-law, Charles Woods. He was a member of Welcome View Baptist Church, a veteran of the US Army having served in Korean Conflict. Surviving are his children, Deborah Kay Woods, Rebecca, and Dale Sechrist, Janie and Mike O’Neal, Sharon and Melvin Hanks; Michael David and Dianne Cummings, Gary “Peanut” and Dee Cummings; grandchildren, Jason Cummings, Justin Cummings, Tina Craddock, Glenda Sumner, Glenn Woods, Jonathan Sechrist, Daniel Sechrist, Nacoma Leftwich, Trent O’Neal, Patrick O’Neal, Blake Lyon, Brandon Lyon, Jordan Lyon, Melissa Casstevens; twenty-five great-grandchildren, and one on the way; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Ann Overman, Alma Lee and Jim Joseph; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Mimi Cummings, Billy Wayne Cummings, Patsy Cummings. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Welcome View Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. Rev. Tommy Shelton, Rev. Don Ball, and Rev. Marty Reece will conduct the services. His body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie in state 30 min. before the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Friday evening, February 15, 2019, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and at other times the at home of his son and daughter-in-law “Peanut” and Dee Cummings, 112 Keyfield Lane, Elkin, NC 28621. The Cummings family would like to give a special thanks to the family of Buck and Cassie Freeman for the love and care given to them.
