Mr. Hugh Linwood "Sonny" Hennis, Jr., age 78 of Mt. Airy, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Hennis was born in Surry County on January 6, 1933, the son of Hugh Linwood Hennis, Sr., and Mamie Carter Hennis. His father was co-founder of Hennis Motor Lines. On September 12, 1953, he married Rebecca Dunn of High Point. Mr. Hennis was associated with Town Tire Service for many years. He was a member of the North Carolina Board of Realtors as a Broker. He and his wife founded and operated their own business, Leisure Time Supplies, which furnished and decorated motels and country clubs in a ten state area. Hugh was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and a member of E. G. Wynne Sunday School Class. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from Kings Business College. His hobbies included fishing, boating, golfing, antiquing and spending time with his family. His is survived by his wife, Becky and two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Hugh L. Hennis, III and wife Lynn Griffin Hennis and Jeffrey Scott Hennis and wife Dr. Anne Richards Hennis. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Hennis Taylor, a brother-in-law, Jim Crossingham, Jr. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hennis was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Hennis Crossingham, Billie Hennis Clark, John S. Clark and Billy V. Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 14, 2011 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Roger Gilbert. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 until the hour of the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Clare Bridge Assisted Living of Winston-Salem for the care and compassion given to Mr. Hennis during his stay there and also to RN, Lyndia Smith and CNA, Sandra Miller for their exceptional attention, Dr. Kim Kinsley for her wonderful care, Chaplain Craig Walker for the encouragement and his social worker Tammy Pless for helping us through such a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund at 714 N. Main St. Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
