Mr. Hugh Millard Speight, age 84 of Galax, VA passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016 at his home. Mr. Speight was born November 1, 1931 in Stanly County, NC to the late Paul F. and Mabel Redwine Speight. Mr. Speight retired as a salesperson for NAPA Auto parts, but not before retiring as a route salesperson for Flavorich. Mr. Speight was a retired volunteer Fireman with the Mount Airy Fire Department; he was a member of Granite Lodge # 322 AF & AM and the Oasis Shriners and was a member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Kevin Wagoner of High Point; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Esther Speight of Mebane; three grandchildren and spouses, Andy Speight, Jamie and Paul Reinas, and Daniel and Vicki Speight; nine great grandchildren, Melanie, Blake, Kaitlynn, Wesley, Seth, Lilly, Codie, Colton and Alayna; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Charles Hill of Mt. Airy; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Frances Speight of King, Ernest and Bernice Speight of Elkin, and Mitchell and Faith Speight of Greer SC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Speight was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Gray McCraw Speight. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Blue Ridge Chapel Church with services conducted by Rev. David R. Moore with full military rites at Skyline Memory Gardens starting at 2:00 PM conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post # 2019 and Pilot Mountain # 9436. The family will receive friends Tuesday night 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Chapel Church, 1559 Max Lane, Galax, VA 24333 or to Orange Grove Fire Department, 6800 Orange Grove Rd., Hillsboro, NC 27278.
