Mr. James Winfred Collins

Mr. James Winfred Collins, age 83, of Westfield passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on June 25, 1933 to the late Tommy Doyle and Etta Mae Wood Collins. Mr. Collins retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County and was a member of Woodville Baptist Church. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Atha Jean Inman Collins of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheree Dolores Cardwell and Johnny of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Doyle Collins and Teri Lynn of Winston Salem, Gary Gene Collins and Shirley of Mt. Airy; step daughters, Deborah Jean Nunn of Winston Salem, Vicky Lynn Bobbitt of Westfield; a step son and spouse, Gary Lee Nunn and Linda of Westfield; grandchildren, Taylor Collins, Bren Collins, Jamie Collins, Michael Collins, Joey Semones, Tommy Semones, Rosemary Barber, Christopher Barber, Jennifer Bobbitt, and Michael Bobbitt; seven great-grandchildren, and a special fur baby, Angel. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Peggy Semones, an infant son, Tony James Collins; a grandson, Christopher Semones; a granddaughter, Julie Hester; and a sister, Ramona Rogers. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 22, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Woodville Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete King and Rev. Andrew Southern officiating where he will Lie-in-State for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Woodville Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday night March 21, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030 or Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Zelda Collins, 1591 Toms Creek Church Road, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina 27041. A special thanks to Hannah Watson, Denise Bennett, Brenda Butner, Drew Southern, Sabrina McKeithan, and other staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and to the VA staff for all of the love and care shown to Mr. Collins during his illness.
