Mr. James W. "Bill" Elgin, Sr., age 81 of Ridgeway, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at his home. He was born on May 15, 1925 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Rev. Buren A. Elgin and Ora Roberson Elgin. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and had retired with the United States Post Office. He was a member of Smith River Church of the Brethren.
Mr. Elgin is survived by his wife, Cornelia W. "Corky" Elgin of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, James W., Jr. "Jimmy" and Faye Elgin of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Thomas Lee Nelson of Bassett; two grandchildren, Alex Elgin and wife, Stephanie, and Wade Nelson; four sisters, Patricia Rorrer of Lynchburg, Betty Jane Holt of Stuart, Sandra Richardson of Moneta and June Carol Gunter of Stuart; and two brothers, B. Randolph Elgin of Stuart and Richard Glenn Elgin of Lynchburg.
Funeral services for Mr. Elgin will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Smith River Church of the Brethren with Rev. Dewayne Troutt and Rev. Luther Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Smith River Church of the Brethren, 2186 Bob White Road, Stuart, Virginia 24171, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
