Mr. James Blair Howell, Sr., age 69 of Stuart, passed away Friday, September 29, 2006 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on October 23, 1936 to the late Harry P. Howell, Sr. and Grace Rorrer Howell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Howell was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Melissa Jo Howell; four brothers, Herman "Wimpy" Howell, H. P. Howell, Jr., Garland Howell and Wade Howell; and five sisters, Mildred Howell, Maxine Ferguson, Madeline Smith, Mary Howell and Marie Howell. He had worked for Mays Funeral Home for 7 years, and retired from Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with over 44 years of service. He was a former member of Stuart Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of Stuart Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Howell is survived by his wife, Maxine Rogers Howell of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, James Blair Howell, Jr. and Cindy Howell of King, North Carolina; one daughter and son-in-law, Joanna H. and Kevin Hutchins of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Joshua Bret Pegram, Jordan Christopher Pegram; Elisabeth Grace Hutchins, Rachel Danielle Hutchins, Elijah Parker Hutchins and Hope Abigail Hutchins; four brothers, Clanton Howell of Stuart, Gordon Howell of Vesta, Ralph Howell of Mount Airy, North Carolina and Leon Howell of Stuart; and two sisters, Mabel Fulcher of Roanoke and Margaret Hopkins of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mr. Howell will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Fred Gilley, Rev. Buford Jessup and Rev. Bennett Shelton officiating.
