Mr. James Otis Key

Mr. James Otis Key, age 86, of Dobson, NC passed on Friday February 8, 2013 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home with his loving family and friends. He was born in Surry County on June 23, 1926 to the late John Henry and Mary Ellen Flippin Key. He was member of New Hope Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for fifty seven years and also served as Chairman Deacon for forty plus years, and also taught Sunday School. He was a Gideon. He was a self employed Painter for twenty plus years, after retiring he worked for Surry County part time until retiring at the age 83. James was a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Surviving are his wife of over sixty eight years Geneva Freeman Key of the home; one daughter and son-in-law Linda and Mose Cockerham of Dobson; five grandchildren Jami and Teddy Guynn, Amy and Joel Jones, Seth and Jenny Alyn Key, Hannah Key, Savanna and Chris Badgett; three step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren Natalee Jones, Carlee Jones, Paytin Key and Gracie Key; two sisters and brother-in-law Stella Hensley of Mt. Airy, Annie Hensley and Lloyd Terry of Burlington, NC. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a son James Craig Key; and three brothers Charles Key, George Key, and Jessie Key. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday February 12, 2013 at New Hope Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Trent Lyons will conduct the services. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
