Known as "Grandpa" to all who shared his life, Mr. Kirkpatrick always enjoyed an afternoon of fishing or just sitting in his favorite rocker on the porch to visit and play with the ever-present farm cats. During the winter, he would sit for hours a day cracking black walnuts to share with family and friends. He was a member of the Little River Baptist Church in Aldie, Virginia, and later the Boyce Baptist Church in Boyce, Virginia.
Mr. Kirkpatrick is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Sam White of Halifax; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Betty Kirkpatrick of Stuart; two grandsons, Wayne Matthew Kirkpatrick, and his wife, Leah, of Harrisonburg and James Howland Kirkpatrick , and his fiancee, Kara Sundstrom, of Virginia Beach; one great-granddaughter, Anya Marie Kirkpatrick, whom he adored; one great-grandchild expected this Christmas; and a sister, Elsie Virginia Kirkpatrick Light of Waterford, Virginia. Special people in James' life include Glen Ing, Floyd Lofton, John, Mattie and Megan (Bureau) Fries, and the Rev. Jim and Bea Smith who will always be remembered for their friendship. The family is deeply grateful for the company of the Pike family, Scott and Summer and their three children, Brooke, Blake and Bryley, whose visits brought joy, laughter and light to James' life.
