Mr. James Henry Kirkpatrick, Jr

Mr. James Henry Kirkpatrick, Jr., age 92 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at his home. He was born in Leesburg, Virginia on October 30, 1915 to the late James Henry Kirkpatrick, Sr. and Rosa Virginia Rutter Kirkpatrick. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirkpatrick was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Elizabeth Byrne Kirkpatrick; five brothers and sisters, Albert Lee Kirkpatrick, Dorothy Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Williams, Mason Kirkpatrick, Edward Vernon Kirkpatrick and William Russell Kirkpatrick; and seven half-brothers and sisters, Rose May Kirkpatrick Wallace, Violet Pearl Kirkpatrick Wilson, Clarence Mason Kirkpatrick, James Murray Kirkpatrick, Nellie Virginia Kirkpatrick Rollins, Bertha Frances Kirkpatrick Solomon and Lester Alvin Kirkpatrick.
Mr. Kirkpatrick lived in Aldie Virginia for many years operating the family farm until his retirement in 1980 to White Post, Virginia. Following the death of his wife in October, 1992, Mr. Kirkpatrick moved to Stuart where he shared his son's home and, in earlier years, participated in the daily chores of his son's dairy operation. Known as "Grandpa" to all who shared his life, Mr. Kirkpatrick always enjoyed an afternoon of fishing or just sitting in his favorite rocker on the porch to visit and play with the ever-present farm cats. During the winter, he would sit for hours a day cracking black walnuts to share with family and friends. He was a member of the Little River Baptist Church in Aldie, Virginia, and later the Boyce Baptist Church in Boyce, Virginia.
Mr. Kirkpatrick is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Sam White of Halifax; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Betty Kirkpatrick of Stuart; two grandsons, Wayne Matthew Kirkpatrick, and his wife, Leah, of Harrisonburg and James Howland Kirkpatrick , and his fiancee, Kara Sundstrom, of Virginia Beach; one great-granddaughter, Anya Marie Kirkpatrick, whom he adored; one great-grandchild expected this Christmas; and a sister, Elsie Virginia Kirkpatrick Light of Waterford, Virginia. Special people in James' life include Glen Ing, Floyd Lofton, John, Mattie and Megan (Bureau) Fries, and the Rev. Jim and Bea Smith who will always be remembered for their friendship. The family is deeply grateful for the company of the Pike family, Scott and Summer and their three children, Brooke, Blake and Bryley, whose visits brought joy, laughter and light to James' life.
A family night will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
