Mr. James Webb Lawson of Mt. Airy, passed away Sunday October 30, 2011 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was the beloved husband of Betty Lawson. They had been married 55 years. He was born on August 22, 1928 in Surry County, he was the son of the late Hassell and Margie Lawson. James retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 35 years of service as a Special Agent in the Police Department, and a member of New Life Baptist Church. After retirement, James and Betty moved from Greensboro to Mt. Airy where they enjoyed Old Time Music. You could find them with many friends on Friday and Saturday nights in Surry County and the surrounding area, dancing and listening to music, and James calling the square dance. James was a loving husband and father. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Debra and son-in-law, Bruce Henning of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; son Webb and daughter-in-law, Della Lawson of Bermuda Run, four granddaughters, Haley Lawson of Bermuda Run, Jamie Lawson and fiancé Justin Whittrock of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Henning of Moorhead, Minnesota and Caroline Henning of Coon Rapids, Minnesota. He is also survived by his sister Irene Stanley of Elkhorn City, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Lawson of Mount Airy, sister-in-law Paula and husband Pendelton Little of Valdosta, Georgia, sister-in-law Myra and husband Raymond Phelps of Jacksonville, Florida, sister-in-law Harriet and husband Frank Hodgson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, brother-in-law Julian Lawson of Hahira, Georgia as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Lawson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gray Kirkman and Rev. Joe Atkins presiding. Burial will follow in the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
